Post-Christening Reception at Electric Boat Provides Warmth and Comfort

Electric Boat Columbia Class Hanger

Following the christening of the future USS IDAHO, guests were bussed from the christening site (the Virginia-class hanger near the water), to the Columbia-class submarine hanger. The hanger is massive and is built to hold two Columbia class 560-foot-long submarines.

Electric Boat CEO welcomed the guests, who mingled and enjoyed prime rib, lobster rolls, shrimp cocktail, sliders and the Idaho baked potato bar. Sponsor Terry Stackley was presented with a lifetime membership in the Society of Sponsors of the U.S. Navy from Electric Boat. On behalf of the future USS IDAHO, Commander Randall Leslie received a plaque from Naval Reactors. The plaque states that it was "created with the hull steel from the S1W prototype located at the Naval Reactors facility in Idaho. S1W contained the first nuclear reactor in the Naval Reactors Program."
