USS IDAHO Will Welcome a New Commander to its Pre-Commissioning Unit Commander Randall Leslie to take the helm from Commander Nicholas Meyers

The USS IDAHO, a Virginia-class nuclear powered attack submarine currently under construction, is on schedule to be christened in at some point in 2024 and commissioned into active U.S. Navy service in 2025.  This is the first Navy vessel to be named after Idaho in over 100 years.

As is routine for a U.S. Navy vessel, a pre-commissioning unit crew of sailors is assigned to the under-construction submarine in preparation for its eventual launch. Since 2020, that crew has been commanded by U.S. Navy Commander Nicholas Meyers. At a change of command ceremony scheduled for Friday, 2 December 2022, Commander Meyers will turn over those duties to Commander Randall Leslie.

The ceremony will be streamed over Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/GrotonSubs/) at 8 a.m. MT on Friday, 2 December. The USS IDAHO Commissioning Committee will have members in attendance, to include Former Governor Dirk Kempthorne and Captain Richard Colburn, U.S. Navy (retired). Captain Colburn serves as the Chairman of the USS IDAHO Commissioning Committee.
