LEWISTON, Idaho – A submarine named the USS Idaho SSN 799 is roughly six months from being christened in what would be the first time in over 100 years.

Tomorrow night (09/20) at Lewiston's Veterans of Foreign Wars Sourdough Post 10,043, folks will have the opportunity to hear from the USS Idaho's commander, and crew members and learn about the ship.

The USS Idaho Commissioning Committee is hosting this series of events throughout the state.

Chair of the Valley Veterans Council and Commander of the VFW post, Doug Welch speaks to the purpose of this event both for the community and for the submarine's crew.

"To see how the crew, the boat, and everything is going to integrate and relate to Idaho. Hopefully, it'll be very informative and navy tradition is they'll know a lot about the state, even if they didn't come to the state," Welch said.

This reception event is tomorrow, Wednesday the 20 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

It is at the VFW Hall in Lewiston, at 1104 Warner Ave, and it is free
