Hot Weather + USS Idaho Photos + New Playground
Thu May 29th, 2025
Have you taken a photo that captures Idaho’s scenic beauty?
If so, consider entering it in the USS Idaho Photo Contest to be displayed on the ship.
The USS Idaho is a nuclear-powered, fast attack submarine that’s currently under construction in Connecticut, as we’ve previously reported. The submarine is set to be commissioned in 2026. It will sail the world for the next 30 years, hosting many heads of state and dignitaries.
To reflect the sub’s namesake, the USS IDAHO Commissioning Committee wants photos depicting Idaho’s iconic landscapes, landmarks, places, cultures, and wildlife to spruce up the inside of the ship.
The committee will select 200-300 photos to be used in an electronic “Here We Have Idaho” themed video presentation for the crew’s and visitors’ enjoyment on monitors throughout the ship, according to a news release. Additionally, 20 to 30 photos will be printed and mounted in frames or vinyl murals inside the ship. There will be one large mural (approx. 5 ft tall x 18 ft long) and two smaller murals (approx. 3 ft tall x 10 ft long).
If this sounds like an opportunity you would be interested in, digital photos can be submitted through July 31.
Photographers whose work is chosen for digital display will receive a Certificate of Appreciation. Those whose photos are chosen for physical display will receive a Certificate of Appreciation, a photo of their work as it is displayed in the USS Idaho within a year of the Commissioning, and two tickets to the USS IDAHO Commissioning in 2026.
