USS IDAHO crew met with Gov. Brad Little, Lt. Gov. Scott Bedke and other members of Idaho's leadership on Wed. Jan. 25

The crew of the USS Idaho spent Wednesday morning at Idaho's capitol building meeting with Gov. Brad Little, Lt. Gov Scott Bedke, House Speaker Mike Moyle, and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Winder. The crew was welcomed by members of the Idaho Legislature.

"Let it be... forever!" Lt. Cmdr. Darrell Smith, executive officer of the future USS Idaho (SSN 799), gave Gem State hockey fans a taste of submarine life by leading them in his crew's call-and-response battle cry. "Let it be - forever" is the English translation of Idaho's Latin state motto, Esto Perpetua.

Carrie French — who walked the halls of Caldwell High School as a student and cheerleader — joined the National Guard in 2003 and graduated in 2004. French was killed in 2005 in Kirkuk, Iraq, when an explosive hit a vehicle she was in. She was 19. On Tuesday, French was honored at an assembly with USS Idaho sailors at Caldwell High School. The USS Idaho is under construction in Groton, Connecticut, and is scheduled to be commissioned into the U.S. Navy active duty in 2025.
