Victory Belles to Present Free Concerts This Week
Eye on Sun Valley -- Aug. 11, 2025 The Victory Belles will pepper the Wood River Valley with the music that became so familiar during World War II this coming week in support of the USS Idaho submarine.

It’s often said that Sun Valley is the center of the universe, as the Wood River Valley community is naturally connected to many people across the country and abroad, especially for lovers of outdoor sports, activities, and mountains. Today, Sun Valley has another chance to reach the world by sea through the USS IDAHO (SSN 799), a Virginia Class, nuclear-powered, fast-attack submarine. The USS IDAHO (SSN 799) is the first U.S. Navy warship to carry the name in over 100 years since the battleship USS IDAHO (BB42) was christened in June 1917.

Edelman As part of Preston’s 125th birthday celebration, Former Navy Captain Marty Sattison gave an update on Tuesday, July 29, on the nearly complete USS Idaho (SSN-799) — the U.S. Navy’s newest nuclear-powered fast attack submarine. After years of construction and community support, the state-of-the-art vessel is almost ready to join the fleet.

5b Gazette - 5/28/25 The USS Idaho SSN 799 will soon be sailing the world and its commissioning committee is seeking photography from the Gem State to be displayed in the ship's interior. The committee wants the interior of the submarine to reflect the beauty, culture and spirit of Idaho for the crew and its visitors as it pulls into numerous ports to host heads of state and dignitaries, according to a press release.

"This commission will be a culmination of my career, and a very special event," Guillerault said. Guillerault joined the U.S. Navy in 2002, and his service on the USS Idaho will be the fourth submarine he will have served.
